V8Star: Lamy's first win
Pedro Lamy triumphed in the third round of the V8Star championship held at the Murburgring today (Saturday). After an exciting battle for the lead, the former F1 driver pulled out a decisive advantage over his Galeria Kaufhof Team Zakspeed team-mate Robert Lechner and Irmscher driver Johnny Cecotto.
It was Lamy's first win in the series and it was hard earned. Lechner had led the race until the mandatory pitstop. Lamy's stop moved him ahead of Cecotto, and a solid outbraking manoeuvre on Lecher a few laps later gave the Portuguese a lead he would not lose.
"Winning in my third race makes me very happy," said Lamy. "Technology in the V8STAR is equal for all, today our team has made the difference. Thanks for that."
Dane Kurt Thiim claimed his best result of the season so far in fourth place, ahead of Ralf Druckenmüller and Roland Asch. The result means that Cecotto and Lamy share the lead in the points standings. Both have 89, while Lecher is third on 82.
The next round of the V8STAR series takes place at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, June 15.
