Turvey gets Team GB opportunity
McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver award winner Oliver Turvey will drive Team Great Britain's A1GP car at Brands Hatch next week and is being lined up to join the squad's driver pool
"Oliver deserves an opportunity to continue to develop as an emerging talent," said team principal John Surtees, "and I'm delighted that we can give him a chance to get acquainted with the team next week at Brands Hatch with a view to his participation in an A1GP 'Rookie' session very soon."
Turvey competed in the Formula BMW UK Championship with Team Loctite last season, finishing second in the standings despite missing a third of the races due to a shortage of sponsorship.
"Oliver has proved himself magnificently both on and off track with some terrific performances in last season's Formula BMW Championship combined with his studies at Cambridge University," said Surtees.
"For sure if he'd had the budget to compete from the start of last season's championship I'm sure he'd have challenged for the title."
"I need opportunities like this to drive fast, powerful race cars and from what I've seen of the A1GP car, it's certainly that as well as a lot of fun to drive," Turvey added.
"I'm hoping a relationship with A1 Team Great Britain will be good for my career and I'm grateful for the opportunity to spend some time with them at Brands Hatch next week."
