Tom Wheatcroft honoured

Tom Wheatcroft, the 82-year-old founder of the Donington Grand Prix Collection, has been chosen to receive the inaugural Meguiar's Award for the 'UK Car Enthusiast of the Year'. The award will be presented at the Royal Automobile Club in London, on the evening of Saturday, September 18

Meguiar's, a family-owned worldwide manufacturer of automotive surface care products, has decided to launch an annual award in Britain, based on one that has been presented in America for the last 10 years. The Meguiar's Award honours an individual who has made a significant contribution to the growth, visibility and quality of the car enthusiast movement, in all its forms.

An independent panel of 10 automotive journalists was given 17 nominees and chose Wheatcroft for the Donington Grand Prix Collection, which he opened at his circuit in 1973. Today, with five halls housing over 130 exhibits, it is the largest museum of its kind in the world.

The ceremony will be televised in the USA and Canada on SPEED Channel, on which company president Barry Meguiar hosts a popular weekly show called Car Crazy.
