Team Menard quickest at IRL open test
IRL outfit Team Menard has been dealt a double pre-season boost following a successful test session and the signing of a new sponsor
Greg Ray set a fastest lap of 168.445mph during day one of the second Indy Racing League open test at Walt Disney World Speedway.
He also posted the second fastest speed of the day - 166.707mph - in his back-up car.
'This is such a demanding racetrack, I think it will set the stage for a couple races to come,' said Ray.
'In relative terms, I think we're doing pretty well right now, but you're going to continue to see the bar continue to move as we approach the first race.'
Meanwhile, Team Menard announced that finance company Conseco would become the outfit's primary sponsor for the 2000 season.
The announcement extends the five-year relationship between the two organisations.
Conseco spokesman Stewart Stockdale said: 'Working with two-time champions Team Menard represents a further expansion of our long-term commitment to sports marketing and motorsports.
'Their professional and focused approach mirrors our approach to business; we're proud to increase our support of the team.'
