Tappy to make Team GBR debut
Duncan Tappy will join A1GP team Great Britain to take part in the rookie practice sessions in Mexico City next weekend
The 23-year-old won the Formula Renault UK Championship last season and aims to graduate to the World Series by Renault this year. He will work on car set-up in the rookie sessions before race driver Oliver Jarvis takes over for the rest of the weekend.
Tappy, who has twice been nominated for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award, told autosport.com that he hopes to make a good impression with a relatively small amount of time in the car in Mexico.
"I'll do my best to get the car ready for Olly [Jarvis] and I just want to show what sort of a job I can do and how I go about things. You can't show your ultimate speed in two 25-minute sessions in a new car on a new circuit, so you've got to be sensible and do the job as the team needs.
"The circuit is very different to anywhere I've been before so I've been searching the internet for on-board footage of laps there!"
With time running out to secure the budget for a World Series drive for this season, Tappy is hopeful that a strong performance could lead to more A1GP outings in future.
"My main aim is to impress the team in Mexico and hope that more will come of it," he said. "I'd be over the moon if I got a chance to race the car in the future, but at the moment I need to concentrate on Mexico and do the best job I can.
"I don't know if I'll get another go so it's important to make the most of it this time."
