Schumacher just wants to have fun
Michael Schumacher makes no secret of the fact that he is returning to competitive action at the Race of Champions this weekend to win, but he insists he is still only interested in doing things for fun
The seven-time Formula One world champion has stayed away from serious competition since he bowed out of F1 at the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix, but recently completed two tests for Ferrari as well as some post-season kart events.
However, having made it clear that he is not missing being involved in racing, Schumacher said his primary motivation for the comeback at Wembley is for entertainment.
"I have been here before, at the event in Paris, and I had good fun," said Schumacher, referring to his first Race of Champions outing in 2004. "All I have been doing over the year so far has been about having fun, and I hope to enjoy it.
"I remember Sebastian (Vettel, RoC teammate) called me a few months ago to ask if we needed to train, and what we had to do for it - all these sort of things. That's normal, if you don't have the experience of the event, to find out how serious it all is, and I just said go natural.
"Nobody of us did any training, so we came here to enjoy and have fun. It is natural that you like to win..."
When asked if his competitive instinct still burned brightly, especially after his impressive lap times recently for Ferrari, Schumacher smiled: "Not at all....that (the Ferrari) was clearly underweight."
