Returnee Brundle leads F2 testing
Alex Brundle was quickest on the first day of Formula 2 testing at Catalunya today, edging out fellow Briton Jack Clarke by 0.180 seconds
The best times were set during the final 45-minute session, during which use of the cars' overboost facility was permitted. Clarke had earlier topped session two, while Mihai Marinescu had been quickest on a dry track in the morning.
Brundle contested the inaugural F2 season in 2009 before moving to British Formula 3 this year, but has returned to F2 for winter testing.
F3 Euro Series driver Christopher Zanella was third ahead of fellow F2 debutant - and Italian F3 champion - Cesar Ramos.
Behind Maxime Jousse, Marinescu, Kelvin Snoeks, Benjamin Lariche and Ramon Pineiro, the next of the newcomers was Formula Palmer Audi champion Nigel Moore, who took 10th.
The day was interrupted by various minor incidents, and a more substantial crash for German driver Thiemo Storz, who was soon able to resume running.
Formula Ford graduate Daniel Cammish was only 14th in the final session, but had been in the top 10 for most of the day.
The test concludes tomorrow, when Formula Renault driver Jukka Honkavuori and sometime Superleague Formula driver Martin Qing Ha will also have their first experience of F2.
