Rain turns Portland grid inside-out
Rain showers meant a strange looking grid after the first qualifying session at Portland.
Richie Hearn was narrowly fastest ahead of Patrick Carpentier and Robby Gordon, all three benefiting from being out in the second session, the one for the slower half of the field.
By the end of their session, the track was almost dry, but the conditions had been much worse in the earlier session for the faster cars. Quickest of those were the Team KOOL Green cars of Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy, although they wound up 13th and 14th overall.
