Lap 1: Dario Franchitti overtakes Gil de Ferran and storms off into the lead, putting some four seconds between them
Lap 14: Michael Andretti is out of the race, after colliding with Greg Moore, the cars are currently under full yellow and waiting for the restart.
Montoya is up to seventh position, following the Moore/Andretti incident.
Helio Castro Neves is also out of the race following mechanical problems.
Lap 18: After four laps under caution, the race is restarted.
Lap 20: Bryan Herta hits the back of Scott Pruett and is pushed off the circuit.
Franchitti is leading de Ferran by 2.5 seconds.
Jimmy Vasser is up to third with Fittipaldi hot on his heels.
Lap 24: Fittipaldi overtakes Vasser.
Vasser is now being caught by Paul Tracy.
Juan Montoya is closing up behind Tony Kanaan, who currently lies in sixth.
Lap 30: Vasser pits.
Richi Hearn and Christian de Matta have collided, the yellow flag is out.

Lap 32: Dario Franchitti leads the field under full yellow. Roberto Moreno is now running in second, with de Ferran in fourth, Gugelmin in fourth.
Montoya goes to the back of the pack after being penalised for running over team-mate Jimmy Vasser's air line during his pitstop exit.
Lap 35: Green flag. Franchitti is leading, followed by Roberto Moreno.
Al Unser Jnr has just hit Greg Moore.
Patrick Carpentier pits.
The race is under full yellow, while marshalls attempt to get Moore back into the race.
Lap 38: Franchitti, Moreno, de Ferran lead the field.
Juan Montoya moves up to 13th position, and is chasing Max Papis in 12th.
Montoya makes contact with Papis's backend, but has recovered without losing a place.
Christian Fittipaldi is catching P J Jones in fifth position.
Lap 51: Franchitti leads Moreno by seven seconds.
Fernandez goes up to eighth, after overtaking Tony Kanaan.
There is moisture in the air, which could spell a change to rain tyres.
Lap 57: Franchitti leads Moreno by 8.54 seconds.
Moreno pits.
Gugelmin pits in front of Moreno, who stops for 18 seconds.
Lap 59: Gil de Ferran is up to second following Moreno's stop.
Franchitti has built his lead up to 11 seconds.
Lap 60: Michel Jourdain loses control of his car coming out of turn 3, and takes Montoya out.
Full course yellow.
Franchitti pits.
Tracy moves ahead of Fittipaldi during the pitstop.
Lap 64: Still under full yellow, Franchitti leads, followed by Carpentier and de Ferran.
Carpentier has not pitted.
Gil de Ferran is ordered to the back of the grid, after hitting one of Fittipaldi's tyres in the pitlane.
With 28 laps to go, Franchitti leads again.
Tracy overtakes Carpentier.
Fittipaldi and Moreno both overtake Carpentier.
Moore goes out with mechanical failure laying a lot of oil on the track.
De Ferran brakes on Moore's oil and stops.

Franchitti leads, followed by team-mate Paul Tracy, Moreno, Fittipaldi and Papis.
Lap 73: Still under full yellow, Moore's oil is being cleared from the track.
Lap 77: Franchitti accelerates towards the green flag, and storms off in the lead.
Fernandez takes Kanaan.
Pruett overtakes Kanaan and goes up to seventh place.
With 16 laps to go, Franchitti leads Tracy by 2.54 seconds.
Some 10 laps to go, Franchitti looks strong, and still leads Tracy.
Christian Fittipaldi is close behind Tracy, who has a 1.5 second advantage on the Brazilian.
With just six laps to go, Vasser gets past Jones.
Lap 91: Four more laps to go for Franchitti.
Lap 93: Tony Kanaan is out, and loses eighth position.
There is a large amount of Kanaan's debris in the middle of the track.
Gugelmin goes down the escape road at Turn 9 and rejoins the race. He loses a lot of places.
Last lap: Franchitti just a mile-and-a-half away from victory in Toronto.
Dario Franchitti wins in Toronto, and takes his first win of the 1999 season.
Tracy takes second, Fittipaldi takes third, Moreno fourth, Papis fifth.
