Franchitti dominates in Toronto
Team Green enjoyed a one-two at Toronto last night, after Dario Franchitti won the race ahead of team-mate Paul Tracy
The Scot dominated round eleven of the FedEx CART series, taking his first win of 1999.
Franchitti commanded the race from the first lap, after overtaking polesitter Gil de Ferran.
He now lies second in the championship, just eight points behind rookie Columbian Juan Montoya, who leads on 113 points.
Franchitti looked strong throughout the incident-filled race, which saw both Gil de Ferran and Juan Montoya relegated to the back of the grid after pitlane infringements.
De Ferran was penalised for running over one of Fittipaldi's tyres after pitting, and Montoya was sent to the back of the pack for running over an airline.
Michael Andretti left the race early after colliding with Greg Moore. The Canadian rejoined, but was to suffer mechanical failure later on in the race.
Helio Castro Neves also made an early exit, suffering mechanic problems, which forced him to retire.
After the first round of pitstops, PacWest driver Roberto Moreno, who is driving for the injured Mark Blundell, moved up to second.
Montoya was later forced into the wall on Lap 60 after overtaking Michel Jordain.
The Mexican hit the Columbian after losing control of the back-end of his Payton-Coyne racecar under acceleration.
With just four laps to go, Tony Kanaan crashed out of eighth position leaving debris on the track.
Franchitti ran over it, but did not damage his car.
After 95 laps, Franchitti took the win, with Tracy second, Fittipaldi third, Moreno fourth and Papis fifth.
