Priaulx upbeat after emotional day
Andy Priaulx says that this year's Race of Champions was an enjoyable and emotional experience for him, as he paid tribute to the late Colin McRae
The three-time WTCC champion got as far as the semi-finals in the individual 'Champion of Champions' event at Wembley on Sunday, where he was beaten by eventual tournament winner Mattias Ekstrom.
"I enjoyed winning, it was so close," he added. "But that's what RoC is all about. The cars are just completely different from one to another and I'm really happy. I had massive understeer (in the semi-final). It just wasn't turning and I was taking handfuls of lock."
Priaulx spun out of his race with the DTM champion, but he admitted that he had enjoyed the event and paid tribute to the late Colin McRae after losing against Ekstrom.
"Of course I'm disappointed not to make the final, but there is only one winner and anyone can lose," said Priaulx. "It's been a very emotional event today, we were all driving for Colin."
The event organisers paid tribute to the late World Rally Champion, who died with his young son in a helicopter crash at his home in Scotland last September.
His brother Alister, taking part in the event, drove McRae's championship winning Subaru into the arena after a lone bagpiper had played.
"He lived his life at a million miles an hour and I know he would have been very proud to see the depth of respect for his achievements," said fellow Scotsman David Coulthard.
"I was very proud to know him."
