Power leads first practice
Will Power continued his excellent form to go quickest in first practice for the Grand Prix of Edmonton
The Team Australia driver lapped the 1.973-mile course at an average speed of 119.974mph to beat Sebastien Bourdais by 0.053 seconds.
The reigning champion was on a flying lap in the last minute of the session when it was red-flagged for a spin from Justin Wilson's RSPORTS car.
Bourdais' Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing teammate Graham Rahal was third, albeit over half a second off his team-leader's pace, while Bruno Junqueira continued the fine form he showed in Toronto with fourth quickest, ahead of Wilson.
The best of the rookies who have never raced at Edmonton before (so excluding Rahal) was Neel Jani. The PKV Racing driver missed the first half hour of the session due to his gearbox leaking oil, but he bounced back to become the last of the drivers to crack the minute barrier.
Dan Clarke had a major shunt exiting Turn 3 where he oversteered into a 180 degree spin that put him into a wall. The incident then brought out a red flag when his shredded car deposited debris at Turn 4.
His Minardi Team USA teammate Robert Doornbos, the current leader of the championship, was 10th fastest.
