Peugeot dominate Monza qualifying

As expected, Peugeot dominated qualifying for the Monza 1000kms as Nicolas Minassian reproduced his practice form to take pole position

The Frenchman's time of 1:31.470 was the fastest of the weekend so far and was very nearly half a second quicker than the sister diesel-powered Hdi FAP of Pedro Lamy and Stephane Sarrazin.

Audi could not live with the French cars in qualifying with Rinaldo Capello's best lap a 1:33.193, some 1.7s away from pole.

Mike Rockenfeller and Alex Premat will start fourth in the sister R10 TDI.

Stefan Mucke was easily the fastest petrol-engined driver as the Lola Aston Martin oupaced Oliver Panis' ORECA Courage by more than a second.

Jos Verstappen took the LMP2 pole for Van Merksteijn Racing, and will start 10th overall in the Porsche Spyder RS.

Porsches filled the next LMP2 places with Jan Lammers taking second for Horag and Casper Elgaard in third for Essex Racing.

Olivier Beretta stunned Team Modena's Tomas Enge by outpacing the Czech driver to take pole for Luc Alphand's Corvette team in GT1. Enge's Aston Martin was 0.2s back in second position.

Robert Bell will start from pole in GT2 for Virgo Motorsport. The battle for the top spot with Alex Davison's Felbermayr Porsche and Pierre Kaffer's Farnbacher Ferrari both within a second of pole.
