New Zealand lead Mexico practice

Team New Zealand registered the fastest time on the first day of A1GP practice in Mexico City today

Driver Jonny Reid put in a late afternoon lap to top the timesheets, despite the disadvantage of having been ineligible to compete in the rookies-only morning session.

Next up came Team Great Britain, with Oliver Jarvis missing out by just a few hundredths of a second. But Jarvis is optimistic for the rest of the weekend, saying that he just needed to iron out the mistakes and learn to get the best out of new tyres.

Third were championship leaders Team Germany, with Christian Vietoris looking every bit as composed as multiple winner and previous incumbent Nico Hulkenberg. Vietoris appeared very much at home on this his first competitive weekend in A1GP, and there is little to suggest he won't keep the German flag flying high on Saturday and Sunday.

Malaysia, the Netherlands and the USA filled the next three spots, despite Jeroen Bleekemolen's Dutch car breaking down midway through the afternoon session.

Home driver Salvador Duran ended the afternoon session in tenth, but said that with a few set-up changes the Team Mexico entry will move up the leaderboard in qualifying.
