Mosler drafts Verdon-Roe

The former British Formula Renault Champion landed a late deal with the outfit to partner Richard Stanton, initially just for the Donington double-header, but team boss Martin Short is eager to run the 38-year-old for the rest of the season

"It was literally a last-minute thing - we drafted Bobby in on the Friday before the race," explained Short. "He's a good driver, and he did a bloody good job this weekend. He showed his class, and I'd certainly like to have him for the year."

Verdon-Roe expressed a desire to continue with the team, but added that nothing had been finalised.

"I'm grateful to Martin for giving me the chance to race this weekend," he said. "The team want me to carry on for the full season, but I'm not sure if I can. I've got a prior commitment to race an historic Ligier at Monza on the same date as the next British GT round, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to carry on for the full year, but I'd love to do it if we can sort it out."

Verdon-Roe and Stanton were hampered by set-up problems on the Mosler, converted to right-hand drive over the winter, during practice and qualifying, but managed to claim a pair of sixth-place finishes in the double-header.

"It was a reasonable damage limitation exercise," said Verdon-Roe. "We had a fair degree of understeer on the car. I was disappointed not to get any further up the grid, but it was a good solid start to the season, so we'll see where we go from there."

Rollcentre also gave its Cup class Noble M12 its debut at Donington Park, with Simon Pullan and Fanny Duchateau bringing the new production-based machine home in a creditable fourth place in class in the rain-affected first race.

The pair then finished eighth in the Cup class in the second event, despite a collision with Godfrey Jones' JWR Porsche 911 GT3-RS.
