Haberfeld inks Walker deal

Former Conquest driver Mario Haberfeld has confirmed his deal with Walker Racing for the 2004 Champ Car World Series

Haberfeld will race in the colours of Cummins, a long-time partner of Derrick Walker's respected outfit. More importantly, he becomes the 18th driver confirmed to take part this year, the number required by race promoters for the reborn series to go-ahead.

"It has been a long winter, now its time to go racing," said Walker. "We are looking forward to competing in the Champ Car World Series in 2004."

Former British Formula 3 champion Haberfeld will contest his second season of Champ Car competition, scoring three top-five finishes and 11 top-10 finishes in 2003.

"I'm very happy to be back in Champ Car for my second year," he said. "This season will allow me to build upon the experience gained with both the cars and the circuits from last year."

This year will be Walker Racing's 14th season of Champ Car competition. The team has four Champ Car victories and 10 poles to its credit, and finished the series as runner-up in 1997 with Gil de Ferran behind the wheel.
