Moreno to substitute for Figge

Formula One and Champ Car veteran Roberto Moreno will start the Grand Prix of Houston on Sunday, filling in for the recuperating Alex Figge at Pacific Coast Motorsports

Figge hurt his back in a hard collision with a wall in last week's Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Moreno last started a Champ Car race in 2003, a year in which his best result was second place in Miami, but he was the test driver for the series' DP01 chassis and therefore feels he has the requisite experience.

Since the start of the season he has been working with Pacific Coast Motorsports pairing Ryan Dalziel and Figge as their driver coach.

The 48-year-old Brazilian said: "It has been a pleasure to work with Pacific Coast Motorsports on the development side and this opportunity will enhance my role in the team in continued development. It's been six months since the testing so this morning I may be a little rusty."

He added: "This is only temporary, Alex will be back in the car very soon, but until then we will continue this development project together.

"I appreciate the opportunity PCM and Tom Figge are giving me, if someone has to replace Alex, I am pleased they have chosen me to do it.  This team is very special, they will accomplish a lot and I am proud to be part of it."

Team Director Tyler Tadevic said: "Of course we are very disappointed Alex is unable to drive this weekend, but we are confident Roberto is a great choice.

"He's already been a great asset to the team, working closely with Ryan and Alex and our engineers, so he was of course our first choice in our continued development as a new team, with the new car.

"Roberto has excelled in the substitute driver role many times in the past and I am confident he will do well this weekend."
