MIA prepares response to DTI initiative
Sixty companies from the UK motorsport and high-performance engineering industry were represented at the Motorsport Industry Association 'open forum' to discuss the £16m DTI strategy for developing UK motorsport over the next five years. The event at the MIA's HQ in Stoneleigh gathered feedback on how the new funding should best be allocated. The MIA is collating the views that were expressed and will shortly present them to the DTI
Questions were posed to Chris Aylett (the CEO of the MIA), Alan Gow (the chairman of the Motorsport Strategy Development Group), George Lendrum (the commercial director of Pi Research and an MIA committee member) and John Grant (the chairman of the Motor Sport Association).
Aylett commented: "As expected, MIA members came up with valuable input and raised a variety of important questions regarding this exciting opportunity. For example, must the UK government invest more heavily in the sport if we are to encourage engineers into the industry? Are we going to link this money with European funding opportunities?
"Overwhelming support and enthusiasm were the order of the day. The attendees encouraged the MIA to continue at the heart of the implementation programme."
