McNish: Franchitti can win title

Dario Franchitti is in the driving seat to win this year's CART championship, according to fellow Scot and friend Allan McNish

In an exclusive interview with AUTOSPORT Online, the American Le Mans star said he expected Franchitti to have the edge over Juan Pablo Montoya in the final two races at Surfers' Paradise and California.

Franchitti is 13 points behind the rookie Columbian, but McNish believes the Scot can still overcome the deficit to take this year's title.

'The pressure is on Montoya,' said former Le Mans' winner McNish.

'Dario seems very calm and it's important he keeps pushing.

'The two final tracks should suit both drivers and I'm sure the championship will go to the wire.

'Dario has progressed very well over the last two years and has been very consistent.'

McNish paid tribute to both Franchitti and Montoya.

'These two have been excellent,' he added.

'They have won most races between them and both drivers have really shone this year.'
