Lowndes escapes enormous accident
Craig Lowndes survived an enormous accident in the Australian V8 Supercar race at Calder Park
The former champion won the first race but barrel-rolled in race two after contact with Neil Crompton and Steve Richards. He was unhurt.
Lowndes won the 1996 title before heading to Formula 3000 with RSM Marko in a bid to break into European single-seater racing, but the move was not a success and he returned to the V8 touring cars with the Holden Racing Team.
His team mate Mark Skaife won the shortened race two, with Holden privateer Garth Tander pushing Skaife down to 2nd in race three.
