Legge satisfied with PKV test

Katherine Legge was satisfied with her first full day of testing in a Champ Car, improving by more than a second from her best time at Sebring with Rocketsports last week

Legge lapped the Florida track in 53.2 seconds in her half-day debut in the category last week, but she narrowed that down to 52.0 in her first day with PKV Racing.

The best over three days of testing last weekend was 50.9 seconds, set by Bruno Junqueira and Giorgio Pantano.

Legge is in a race for a seat at the PKV team with ex-Jordan driver Pantano and Ryan Dalziel.

"Overall, it was a good day," Legge said. "I'm getting more accustomed to driving a Champ Car and I'm very thankful to PKV for this opportunity and their help.

"I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get my time down into the 51-second range, but the day went well and I'm happy with the way I drove.

"Last week's test with Rocketsports really helped me get used to driving a Champ Car and I think I did a good job today. But I still need to work on getting more consistent in the car."

PKV Racing co-owners Kevin Kalkhoven and Dan Pettit were present at the test along with fellow team owner and Champ Car driver Jimmy Vasser and general manager Jim McGee. She will drive with the team for one more day of testing.

"Katherine did a very good job," said McGee. "She ran quite a few miles and we tried some different things on the car once she got comfortable. We still want to do some longer, full-tank runs, but we've got another day ahead of us."
