Legge awaits news from PKV
Katherine Legge expects to find out before Christmas whether or not she will be promoted to PKV Racing's Champ Car team next season
There could be up to two seats available in the team next year, if former champion Cristiano da Matta chooses to leave the team and if Jimmy Vasser retires.
Legge is taking part in a two-day test for the team this week at Sebring, having warmed-up with half a day's track time in the Rocketsports car next year. In her first day the Briton reduced her lap time at the Florida track from 53.2 seconds to 52.0.
Legge's rivals for the seat include Giorgio Pantano, Ryan Dalziel and Ryan Briscoe who all tested for the team last week.
But Legge expects to find out this week whether she will leave Toyota Atlantics, where she finished third in her debut season with three victories.
Legge told autosport.com: "I definitely expect to find out before Christmas. I'm not sure what is happening with Jimmy or Cristiano yet, and I know everyone keeps asking Jimmy if he is going to retire. I want to know too!
"Whatever happens, I've had some great opportunities to drive cars this year, including this Champ Car test and the Fomrula One test.
"I'm fortunate that I am going into this season knowing that I'll be racing somewhere whether it is Atlantics of Champ Car."
PKV Racing co-owner Dan Pettit was present at the test this week and last week, along with Kevin Kalkhoven, Vasser and general manager Jim McGee.
Pettit said: "PKV Racing has not made a determination of how many, if any, seats are available for 2006. This test and others, as well as our on-going discussions with Cristiano (da Matta) and Jimmy's status, will all be taken into consideration as we evaluate what is best for the team in the future."
