Brazilian round won't be replaced
A1 Grand Prix officials have admitted that the cancelled Brazilian round is unlikely to be replaced
Autosport exclusively revealed in November that the race planned for February 12 was going to be canned, because the Curitiba track had not been granted the necessary licence it need to host A1 GP cars.
The race has now been formally cancelled, and the event has been removed from A1 GP's official website.
Alternative venues at Interlagos and Kyalami were researched, however an A1 GP spokesperson has said it now looks unlikely a replacement will be found at such short notice.
"It is now definitely off and it is unlikely an alterative round will be found to replace it," the spokesperson told autosport.com. "We would now rather focus on making the final five rounds a success."
The cancellation has major championship implications.
There are now only five rounds of the inaugural season left, and a four-week gap between the eighth round of the series in Durban, South Africa, on January 29th and the ninth round at Monterrey, Mexico, on February 26th.
The dominant A1 Team France already have a 31 point championship lead and could wrap up the title in January in South Africa should other results go their way.
