Legge has surgery on injured thumb
Katherine Legge has undergone surgery on her right thumb after a fracture was discovered following her accident in last weekend's Mexico City race
Two metal screws were inserted in the joint of the thumb in the operation at Ortho Indy Medical Centre in Indianapolis.
Legge hit the barriers after contact with Mario Dominguez at the start of the season finale. She was able to rejoin following repairs and finished 16th, setting some rapid lap times despite being three laps behind the field.
The injury was then discovered by Champ Car medic Dr. Chris Pinderski when Legge complained of discomfort in her thumb following the race.
"I have a bit of pain right now, but that is to be expected," said Legge. "The good news is that when I recover I will be 100%."
Series boss Kevin Kalkhoven, who is also Legge's manager and runs the PKV Racing team that she has competed for this season, confirmed in Mexico that she will stay in Champ Car for a second season in 2007, although no decision has yet been taken about which team she will drive for.
