Jordan GP assists Formula Schools project

Pupils at Stowe School in Buckingham, England, tapped into the local resources of Jordan Grand Prix for their entry for the 2002 Formula Schools competition. The challenge is organised by the Oxfordshire Motorsport task force to raise the profile of engineering in schools. Each participating school must build a model racing car. Jordan assisted Stowe School with the manufacture of patterns, moulds and composite bodywork for its model

The Formula Schools challenge began in 1997 with five schools and has grown to 63 this year. Schools are given a nominal donation towards building a car, but are themselves responsible for raising funds and engineering assistance through sponsorship.

Jordan's aerodynamic general manager Graham Sprowell said: "Formula Schools is a great idea and it successfully does what it aims at, which is to give students an insight into competitive engineering at a very high level."

In the event, at Silverstone, Stowe School's entry ended in disaster: its car crashed into a bridge during warm-up laps, breaking a driveshaft...

The event was won by Ash Manor School.
