Italian GP inside line

It used to be that Hockenheim provided a decent barometer to Monza form, both run in ultra-low downforce mode. Now though, Hockenheim is a different animal and Monza is a one-off. Last year of course, Ferrari went from its Hungarian nightmare to a pole/win performance from Michael Schumacher

Given the result at Spa a fortnight ago, installing Schumacher (1-2) as Monza favourite with Kimi Raikkonen (6-1) next, is what you would expect. Last year, Juan Pablo Montoya ran Michael very close for the pole and Monza is certainly a place where the BMW V10 can stretch its legs. The main straight is the second longest of the year after Indianapolis and Williams could offer some interesting punts this weekend.

Montoya is quoted at 22-1 to win the race and Antonio Pizzonia is a whopping 66-1. It's a long shot but I'd have no hesitation in covering it. The Brazilian had a three-day test at Monza last week and will be better prepared for this than any other previous race. And, as he showed at Spa, where he was heading for a podium, the pace is there.

Better, perhaps, are quoted odds without Michael Schumacher. In other words, take Schumacher out of the results and Kimi Raikkonen is 5-2 for the win with Montoya 11-1 and Pizzonia 33-1. Each way bets are offered on these, with one-fifth of the odds available for a top three (without Michael) finish. Pizzonia therefore becomes seriously good value.

David Coulthard at 4-9 for points should be a banker and, sorry to keep banging this drum, but the Toyotas for points, at Monza, makes solid sense. The Toyota V10 is among the best power units around, Spa failure notwithstanding, and 10-3 for Olivier Panis is good, 6-1 for Ricardo Zonta even better.
