Infiniti Pro Series to support F1

The 2005 United States Grand Prix will feature a support race of the Menards Infiniti Pro Series next year, as the category becomes the first series to race twice at Indianapolis in the same season since 1916

The decision to feature road courses for the junior category that provides a stepping-stone to the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series has meant that Indianapolis has had no second thoughts about putting the category as a support race to its Formula 1 event.

Indianapolis president Tony George said: "We're excited that the United States Grand Prix will be one of the events for the Menards Infiniti Pro Series as it expands to road courses next year.

"Having two diverse races at the Speedway will provide a real test for the drivers and teams, and competing during two of the biggest motorsports events in the world will increase the prestige and visibility of the series with fans, media and sponsors."

The grand prix support race will mark the second Infiniti Pro Series race in the space of three weeks, following an event on the Friday of the Indy 500 weekend.
