Hunter-Reay tops Sebring test
Ryan Hunter-Reay set the unofficial fastest time during Champ Car testing by several teams at Sebring last week. The American, who won the final race of last season, ran for Herdez Competition, who are evaluating drivers to run in its second car
Regular Herdez driver Mario Dominguez ran alongside Hunter-Reay, and team boss Keith Wiggins waqs pleased with the progress the team made.
"We have hired some new engineers and we were very pleased with the way the whole team performed," he said. "Ryan was up to speed very quickly and neither driver put a foot wrong. We were able to get quite a bit out of the test."
Hunter-Reay drove for American Spirit Team Johansson last season, but the team went bankrupt over the winter.
PK Racing ran former F1 star Mika Salo and Roberto Gonzalez, who ran two Champ Car races last season. Adrian Fernandez was on-hand driving for his eponymous team, while Conquest Racing ran two evaluation days for 17-year-old Frenchman Nelson Philippe. Mario Haberfeld drove for the team on the final day of the test.
"We developed some new pieces for the Reynard over the winter," said Conquest boss Eric Bachelart. "Obviously, we are evaluating whether we stay with the chassis or switch to the Lola. We were encouraged by how Nelson ran compared to the Lolas that were on the track, but we're not yet making any conclusions."
