Hulkenberg to step down after SA

Nico Hulkenberg is set to step down as Team Germany's lead driver after the next A1GP round in Durban, this week's Autosport reveals

Hulkenberg's six victories this season have helped the German team open up a 25-point advantage over New Zealand, but he will soon begin concentrating on his F3 Euro Series commitments with reigning champions ASM.

The 20-year-old will miss the round at Mexico City, and it is expected that he will sit out the final two rounds at Shanghai and Brands Hatch.

Hulkenberg's place will be taken by Formula BMW world champion Christian Vietoris, who has driven in most of the rookie sessions during this season.

The 17-year-old said: "It will be a big challenge for me. The car is a lot of fun but now I need to train more to build my arms and neck up for the race."

David Sears, who runs the German outfit as well as Team New Zealand, said: "Christian has done a good job in the rookie sessions and we are in the fortunate position of having two good young drivers."
