Hughes lands British GT ride

Hughes will replace GruppeM lead driver Tim Sugden, who will miss the races at the Cheshire circuit because of his commitment to run with the J3 Racing team in the American Le Mans Series. With Sugden missing the race, 17-year-old Cocker is now the favourite to take sole possession of the British GT title

GruppeM boss Kenny Chen said: "We know what Warren's done in touring cars, and it will be interesting to see what he can do for us. I hope that he can win, and I believe that we have a very good chance."

Although the deal is just for Oulton Park, Chen added that if Hughes does well this weekend, he could join the team for the Spa 24 Hours FIA GT Championship race.
Hughes raced in the BTCC for the works MG team last season, but lost his drive when the manufacturer withdrew from the series. His sole race outing this year has come as the result of a Porsche Carrera Cup guest drive.

Hughes said: "There's no opening in touring cars at present, so it's a category I'm very interested in. British GT is a very strong national series, and it's a great chance to drive a front-running car. It'll be nice to get stuck in, and hopefully I can help Jonathan in his title bid.

"I've got an idea of what the Porsche will be like after driving the Carrera Cup car earlier this year. I'm confident that I can jump in and be right on the pace."
