Horizon's multi-use Rolex GT racecar

US company Horizon Motorsports is about to complete its first new 'generic' Horizon GT racecar. The front-engined spaceframe chassis will accept body/engine combinations from various manufacturers, including DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, Toyota and Honda. The first car, styled for GM's Pontiac brand, will debut in Grand Am's Rolex Sports Car Series Paul Revere 250 race at Daytona on June 30

Horizon principal Jim Harrell said: " We'll sell the Horizon GT chassis to teams that can then run with the engine and bodywork of their choice. The generic chassis has been developed through many months of consultation with Grand American, with the sole intent of providing a product that can be competitive, flexible enough to accept various bodies and engines, and affordable for teams that don't have the budget of some of the more exotic makes in our series.

"All the parts on this chassis are well-proven in NASCAR and readily available through many different sources. We're trying to make it as easy as possible for a team to go racing and have a chance to win races."

Horizon will itself operate its first racecar during the 2004 season. It is being fitted with a 2004 Pontiac GTO body and a General Motors LS6 Gen III fuel-injected V8.
