Germany win again in feature

Nico Hulkenberg wrapped up a perfect weekend for Team Germany by totally dominating the A1GP feature race at the Durban street track

His sixth consecutive victory, a record eighth in total, leaves the team in an even more commanding position in the championship.

Team Netherlands racer Jeroen Bleekemolen blitzed the start to pass New Zealand and France and challenge Hulkenberg at the first corner, but that was the closest anyone got to the German car all day.

By lap 35 Hulkenberg had opened up a 22-second lead over surprise second place man Robbie Kerr of Team Great Britain. But a violent accident for Team USA's Jonathan Summerton, who was unhurt after a head-on impact with a concrete wall, deleted Hulkenberg's advantage.

But from the restart Kerr was unable to get close to a challenge. The Team Pakistan car was running between the top two, preventing Kerr from attacking.

Even if he had been closer, Kerr probably wouldn't have been so for long. By the end of the 49 laps Hulkenberg was over 10 seconds clear.

Kerr drove a brilliant race, rising from ninth on the grid to fifth. Following a safety car period caused by a first corner pile-up, he gained a place when Team France's Loic Duval suffered a transmission failure.

The British driver then pulled off a brave pass on the Swiss car of Neel Jani, before moving up to second when Bleekemolen was given a drive-through penalty. At his pit stop the Dutchman had been sent out too soon and Team Australia's car rode over his front wheel, putting Karl Reindler out of the race.

Once established in second, Kerr had to deal with great pressure from New Zealand's Matt Halliday, but held on all the way to the flag.

Jani came home fourth for Switzerland ahead of Alvaro Parente, giving Portugal a dream return to the series with a head-earned fifth.

Bleekemolen's penalty meant he had to settle for sixth when second place should have been his.

Brazilian Champ Car ace Bruno Junqueira kept out of trouble to score valuable points in seventh.

The attrition rate was high, with only nine cars taking the flag. That meant Pakistan scored its first points with Nur Ali classified in 10th.
