France still on top in Dubai

France kept up their perfect record in the second hour of practice ahead of the sixth round of the A1 Grand Prix series in Dubai, but Team Ireland ran them close

Ralph Firman's late lap of 1:46.209 looked like it was going to top the session, but Nicolas Lapierre wasn't about to roll over, and he eclipsed the former Jordan Grand Prix driver's best time by just over a tenth of a second on his final flyer.

Neel Jani was third for Switzerland, three tenths back from Firman, while Great Britain's Robbie Kerr was fourth fastest. Italy's Enrico Toccacelo was next up, ahead of Japan's Hiyanari Shimoda and Pakistan's Adam Khan.

The session was stopped with 13 minutes remaining when Alex Yoong suffered a spectacular spin at the penultimate corner, and he broke an element of the car's cooling system.

He rejoined the track, covering the final corner with a wide stripe of coolant, so the red flags appeared to allow the marshals to clear up the mess.

Both Khan and Toccacelo fell foul of the slippery surface when the session was restarted, but managed to resume without damage.
