Fourth session: H-HF's upper hand
Jordan's Jean Alesi had the advantage after the third out of four free practice sessions, but Heinz-Harald Frentzen had been working hard to find a set-up that gave his Prost a better turn-in to corners
This is what happened in session four...
Alesi heads out on a three-lap run and improves marginally to 1m17.672s, but still drops to 14th in the process. Frentzen, too, embarks on a three-lap burst, but fails to go quicker than the 1m18.724s set in the third session.
H-HF heads out again, setting a 1m17.203s lap that is momentarily good for 10th overall. The car is turning in more precisely after wing and ride height changes and the lap is a full 1.5s better than anything he's previously recorded. Returns to the pits with 25 laps completed.
Alesi goes out again, but can only gnaw a tiny margin off his fastest time, stopping the clocks at 1m17.594s. Has now dropped to 15th overall, with 15 laps completed.
Frentzen out again. Does two feeler laps, then returns to the pits.
Alesi back on track. Again chips away the smallest of margins, leaving his mark at 1m17.419s. Goes to 14th overall. Back in with 18 laps completed.
Frentzen out again. Another two-lap run to check wing changes, then back in again with 29 laps completed.
Alesi out again. Whittling process continues and the Frenchman does a 1m17.334s lap before pitting with 21 laps completed.
Frentzen, Prost, 1m17.203s (29 laps)
Alesi, Jordan, 1m17.334s (21 laps)
