Fourth Oreca double in Oschersleben
Despite a weight penalty and the threat of rain, Chrysler Viper Team Oreca came through to take the top two places in today's sixth round of the FIA GT Championship
Olivier Beretta and Karl Wendlinger, with their fourth win of the season, are now eight points clear in the Driver's Championship, while Oreca are sure of winning the Team's Championship.
Belloc and Duez were second after qualifying seventh. Sascha Maassen, starting from pole in the Eschmann Porsche, put in a strong drive for the first hour, leading until he made his first pit stop.
'He was too strong - I could not pass him without too many risks to myself,' Wendlinger said.
The Porsche lost time while the second driver, Paul Hulverscheid, did his 30-minute stint.
Le Mans winner Ortelli took over for the end of the race, and was closing on second placed Belloc's Oreca Viper when he retired with a broken differential.
'It's very disappointing after being strong all weekend,' Ortelli said.
Third place was hotly disputed between the two Chamberlain Motorsport Chrysler Vipers, with Toni Seiler and Christian Gläsel battling during the final stint.
Eventually Seiler won out, after Gläsel let him through on the pitlane straight, in a manoeuvre that he said would haunt him. 'I was too nice,' Gläsel added.
Seiler and Amorim took the third podium spot, with Gläsel and Vann fourth.
Fifth place went to Freisinger Motorsport, in a car which was built in three days earlier this week.
Their original Porsche 911 GT2 was left in America for the final FIA GT rounds.
After missing free practice and part of qualifying, Kaufmann and Ligonnet drove a steady race to take two points.
'It's great for the team - they worked really hard,' Michel Ligonnet said afterwards.
Emmanuel Clérico, who took pole then lost it again due to technical infringements, drove 'at 100%' during his first stint, rising from the back of the grid to 11th in the space of the first lap.
He was fourth when he handed over to Gosselin. A tyre problem in the middle stint lost them time, and their Paul Belmondo Racing Chrysler Viper finished sixth.
Jean-Marc Gounon, a star replacement for the injury-hit Belmondo team, enjoyed his race even if he retired with a broken gearbox.
'It has been a good experience - the level of competition is high. You can race a lot closer here than in the ISRS, because if you're too close in a prototype, you lose the aerodynamics.
'Of course, in the DAMS Lola we don't have too many problems, because we're usually in the front. But it was fun to drive here today.'
The Marcos Mantara LM600, due to make its debut, did not start the race due to a damaged engine.
The car had qualified in 12th position.
The next round is at Donington Park on September 5.
