Enge on standby for home race

Tomas Enge could race in his home event at Brno this weekend if Team Czech Republic decide that the pressure is too much for rookie driver Erik Janis

Janis impressed the team on his A1GP debut at Zandvoort where he scored a point in the feature race, and the 20-year-old will be given a chance to earn the race seat for this weekend when he drives in Friday morning's rookie sessions.

"There is nothing against Erik," said team boss Antonin Charouz. "If he is quick and cool on Friday he will do the whole weekend.

"It is quite normal to nominate more drivers for one weekend and we want to use this possibility for our race event."

Charouz added that the team had taken the decision to have a back-up plan because their home race was so important.

"A home race in such a big championship always brings a lot of pressure and we want to be prepared in the best possible way," he said.

"Tomas has got much more experience comparing to Erik and he has also confirmed that the pain of his left elbow is easing off, so he would be able to race this weekend."

Enge had a strong weekend at Brno last year, where he finished second in the feature race behind Alex Yoong.
