China confirms Shanghai street track is race-ready
The Federation of Automobile Sports of The People's Republic of China has confirmed that construction work for its Shanghai street circuit is complete and that the venue is ready three weeks ahead of its scheduled DTM invitation race on July 18. The announcement was made during a visit to the series' Norisring event last weekend by delegate of the FASC and Chinese media
Delegates from the FASC, accompanied by two teams of broadcasters from China Central TV and Shanghai TV, visited the Norisring DTM event last weekend to promote the event which will run through the streets of Shanghai.
"The circuit including all hospitality facilities was constructed entirely within only 30 days," said Maggie Ip, MD of the event's promoter, the Brilliant Culture Group. "It is situated very centrally, right by the 468-metre high Oriental Pearl TV Tower with its 88 floors. The stands can accommodate 22,000 spectators. We are looking forward to a prestigious event."
The president of the Chinese motoring association and vice president of the FIA, Tian Shu Shi, stated that the race is part of a wider expansion by China into the motorsport market. "The race in China will be the start of motorsports of a high and professional calibre and a good opportunity for extending our cooperation with Europe's car industry," he said.
