Barrichello, Massa, Kanaan take kart win
The all-star Brazilian team of Rubens Barrichello, Felipe Massa and Tony Kanaan emerged victorious after the sixth running of the Granja Viana 500 Mile endurance kart race, which was held in Brazil on Sunday
It was the fourth victory in the event for Barrichello and Kanaan, while Massa added to the win he took in the first ever race back in 1997. A record 64 karts took to the grid, and although the triumphant trio was made to battle for the lead in the early stages, they went on to claim a comfortable win.
They were helped by the retirement of pole sitter, IRL star Felipe Giaffone, who dropped out with engine failure. Other big names to take part included former F1 driver Tarso Marques, F3000 stalwart Mario Haberfeld and IRL rising star Vitor Meira.
For Barrichello, victory rounded off a highly successful season, which included four grands prix wins, while for Massa and IRL-bound Kanaan, it was a rare chance to step onto the top of the podium.
"The victory was not a piece of cake," said Massa, who's yet to announce his 2003 plans. "There are a lot of good drivers out there, and we had to do our best to succeed. I would love to be invited again."
