Audi split the Peugeots in final practice

Peugeot may not have things entirely their own way at the Nurburgring this weekend, if the postions from the final practice session for the fourth round of the Le Mans Series are anything to go by

While Pedro Lamy and Stephane Sarrazin once again topped the times in their diesel-powered 908 HDi FAP with a time of 1:39.023, Alexandre Premat and Mike Rockenfeller moved up to second overall in the No.2 Audi R10 TDI.

The joint championship leaders were still some 1.3s away from the fastest French car's best time, but they were also half a second quicker than the two drivers they share the top of the table with, Marc Gene and Nicolas Minassian, in the No.7 Peugeot.

Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello were curiously far from the pace in fourth in the No.1 Audi - the Le Mans 24 Hours winners more than 3secs away from the leading Peugeot.

The Charouz Racing Lola Aston Martin was once again the fastest petrol-engined car, two seconds ahead of the two Courage-Orecas.

Van Merksteijn Motorsport's Porsche RS Spyder moved to the top of the LMP2 times ahead of Juan Barazi and Michael Vergers in the Barazi Epsilon Zytek. The Speedy Lola was third quickest.

Team Modena's Aston Martin continued to dominate things in the GT1 class, Antonio Garcia and Tomas Enge half a second clear of Olivier Beretta and Jerome Policand in the fastest of the Alphand Corvettes.

Alex Davison and Marc Lieb put Porsche at the top of the GT2 times as the Felbyrmayr 997 enjoyed an advantage of some 0.4s over the Farnbacher Ferrari F430, driven by Pierre Kaffer, Pierre Ehret and Anthony Beltoise.
