Audi last the distance in Houston

Allan McNish and Dindo Capello took victory for the second time this season as they outlasted their rivals in the Lone Star Grand Prix in Houston, Texas

The race looked set for a battle between the Audi and the two Porsches in the closing stages before drivetrain problems hit both Porsches, possibly as a result of the street course's bumpy surface.

The R8's legendary reliability was what was needed and shone through as McNish and Capello took the win, having won the opening round at Sebring in the diesel-powered R10.

With the fast but fragile Lolas also striking trouble, it was a pair of Corvettes that completed the podium placings.

Olivier Beretta and Oliver Gavin finished second overall as they won for the seventh straight time in GT1, their second place the highest ever finish in the series for a GT1 car. Johnny O'Connell and Ron Fellows took third in the sister Corvette.

A lap behind the two Corvettes were the two Aston Martin DBR9s of Tomas Enge and Darren Turner, and Pedro Lamy and Stephane Sarrazin, making it four GT1 cars in the top five placings.

GT2 was won by the Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Mike Rockenfeller and Klaus Graf, winning the class by a lap. Along with two more Porsches and a Ferrari F430, these GT2 cars all finished ahead of the first P2 car, showing that strength is sometimes more important than outright speed.

That P2 car was the Intersport Racing Lola of Clint Field and Liz Halliday, which had to be nursed to the line to edge out the Courage C65 Mazda of Guy Cosmo and Jamie Bach.
