IndyCar - Sonoma: No action taken on that restart. Up front, Kanaan has passed Saavedra for the lead.

IndyCar - Sonoma: A lot of the guys up front will have to stop soon, so this could be a huge stint for Rahal.
IndyCar - Sonoma: So after stopping for repairs, Power and Montoya are now P22 and P23 respectively. Montoya still leads the championship, but with Rahal in 11th, there's only 10 points between them right now.
IndyCar - Sonoma:And they pit again. We need to see another replay, but at first glance it looks like JPM couldn't have done much about that - it looked like Power left a gap, and then closed it again.
IndyCar - Sonoma: That's going to make for an interesting chat in the Penske garage later. Looks like Montoya has sustained damage to his front wing, too.

IndyCar - Sonoma: It sounds like the leaders are going to pit when pitlane opens next time around. Quite a few of the others are going to gamble on staying out.

IndyCar - Sonoma: Montoya is stalking Hunter-Reay for fourth, but not with any particular urgency. It's something that the Andretti driver could do without though, as there has been a lot of chatter on his radio about looking after his fuel.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Kanaan pits, and Montoya and Rahal are now running fifth and sixth on the track. It's less exciting than it sounds though, because they're almost 1.8s apart.

IndyCar - Sonoma: Pagenaud pits again. This time, it's uneventful.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Rahal has made up a couple of places to P7, but he has a lot more work to do: if the race were to end now he'd have fallen from second in the championship to fourth.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Anyway, those last few hold-outs up from have finally pitted, and Power is back into the lead. Newgarden is 1.1s behind him; Dixon another 1.5s down the road in third.
IndyCar - Sonoma: There will be one of those tiresome post-race reviews to decide whether anyone did anything wrong during that stop. Pagenaud is under investigation for impeding Newgarden; Newgarden will be investigated for driving through another car's pit and driving over another car's pit equipment.

IndyCar - Sonoma: And up front, Saavedra has just passed Andretti for the lead. Every team in pitlane will be watching to see how far these guys can push the black tyres.

IndyCar - Sonoma: The current top four: Andretti, Saavedra, Aleshin and Servia, all of whom are off-sequence. Power is fifth, and Dixon has leapfrogged Montoya - the championship leader is now eighth (which should shake out to fifth when the four renegades up front pit).
IndyCar - Sonoma: OK, while we were tying to make sense of that, a bunch of other people have pitted, and Marco Andretti currently leads. That pitlane incident is under review.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Near miss in the pits there - Pagenaud was waiting for Power to clear the pits so that he could turn in to his own pitbox. Newgarden was exiting the box immediately behind, was blocked in, and it looks like they might have bumped each other. Newgarden almost hit one of the Penske crew members, too.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Increasing amount of chatter over the radio about degrading tyres. Power, Newgarden and Rahal are pitting.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Newgarden has been 0.2s quicker than Power over the last few laps, and what was a 1.6s gap has been closed down to 0.4s.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Add Jakes, Vautier and Hawksworth to the early-stopper list. Up front, the leaders have settled onto a pace and there hasn't been much change.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Almost everyone in the top 10 has started on the softer red tyres. The one exception is Andretti, who is down in 10th. Now Bourdais pits - clearly KV are rolling the dice on strategy too.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Castroneves is pitting. He started 15th, and was complaining on the radio about understeer - he had his front wing bumped on the opening lap.

Firestone has a new harder compound this weekend, and we learned yesterday that it's actually pretty close to the softer red alternate - in fact, front row starters Will Power and Josef Newgarden both set their fastest qualifying laps on the blacks, which is all but unheard of.
The flipside to this is that they degrade dramatically, and quickly. Managing that will be the key to success today.
