MotoGP - Austin: Fifteen places further back on the grid is Espargaro's team-mate Colin Edwards - and that sort of disparity, plus a desire to spend more time with his wife and kids, is why the American fan favourite has announced he will retire at the end of 2014.
MotoGP - Austin: Aleix Espargaro starts ahead of the Yamahas in fourth on the Open class leading Forward Yamaha after another spectacular qualifying lap. He suspects race pace will be harder to maintain, though.

MotoGP - Austin: All eyes are going to be on the Yamahas off the line, with Jorge Lorenzo's predilection for an early charge - particularly when he knows he might not have the fastest package.
Lorenzo has edged closer to the front through the weekend after looking all at sea on Friday morning.
But he qualified only 0.001s ahead of Valentino Rossi - who was the sensation of Qatar as he fought for every centimetre with Marquez. The grid's most famous rider is still trying to prove to himself that he should stick around beyond 2014, but the signs have to be good.

MotoGP - Austin: Watch out for Bradl, he was on great form in Qatar last month as he led the first eight laps, but came away with no points after crashing.
Given that experience, a trouble-free top five finish - or better still, a podium - might be more tempting than a titl at the Repsol bikes ahead this time. But for entertainment's sake, let's hope Bradl has a crack at some giantkilling.
