It was certainly a day of two parts, but the rain is set to return with a vengeance. Join us tomorrow for final practice and qualifying.
Alonso ends his day in seventh, ahead of Perez eighth, Rosberg ninth and Paul di Resta rounds out the top 10 for Force India.
Vettel ends up 0.059s clear of Red Bull team-mate Webber, with Grosjean third, Massa fourth, Vergne fifth and Raikkonen in sixth spot.
Sebastian Vettel is fastest in second practice at Spa, but concern for the German as he loses some long run data towards the end.
Raikkonen just managed to make it back out before the chequered flag came out. He's under instructions to compare DRS and non-DRS on the uphill straight towards Les Combes.
As it turns out, Vettel has lost approximately 11 laps worth of track time after his right rear puncture with 20 minutes of the session left.
Drivers are on their final lap now as they finish off gathering long run data at the end of a gloriously dry and sunny session at Spa.
The session has ended. Drivers already on a timed lap may complete it.
87 min: Hamilton completes another lap on his long run in 1m55.945s, albeit on a set of medium tyres that has only done nine laps.
86 min: If you take the Red Bulls out of the equation, the times are quite close with a second covering everyone from Grosjean in third to Button in 15th.
84 min: Vettel is chatting with one of the Pirelli engineers and giving a detailed account of what he felt in the lead-up to that right rear tyre issue.
83 min: Vettel's car is now up on stands and Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has confirmed that the German's day is over.
82 min: Chilton had completed the least laps of anybody in this session - nine - while Webber has racked up 30.
82 min: The Finn does what he's told and brings his Lotus into the pits.
81 min: Raikkonen is instructed to pit at the end of the following lap as he has falling water pressure.
81 min: Bad news for Raikkonen - sixth - as he is being held up on what was looking like a good lap - by Hulkenberg.
80 min: Hamilton locks up for a second time approaching Les Combes, but he is able to rejoin via the run-off area.
80 min: Webber recently pitted the sister car and is back out, still on medium tyres.
77 min: Track is clear and the yellow flags are pulled in.
77 min: Vettel was seven laps into his run on hard tyres. Further replays show that he realised instantly that something was amiss with the right rear.
75 min: Van der Garde is out of his Caterham, appears OK and is walking back towards the pits.
75 min: Vettel has climbed out of the car and this may be the end of the session for the championship leader.
74 min: While Webber continues gathering data on the medium tyre, Vettel remains in the garage as the Red Bull mechanics assess the damage.
73 min: It's van der Garde, whose car snapped around on him as he rounded Paul Frere curve and smacked into the tyre barrier on the outside of the track.
69 min: Some furious work going on in the pedal box of Chilton's Marussia in the pits.
65 min: While Alonso comes across the McLaren of Button on the way through Eau Rouge. The Spaniard opens his DRS and blasts by.
62 min: Alonso has not done his medium-tyre run yet because the team has been working on getting the optimum performance package onto his car.
59 min: Massa is pushed into the Ferrari garage to join Alonso. They sit fourth and 14th on the timesheets right now.
58 min: Hulkenberg sets his best middle sector and moves up to 11th at the end of the lap. Pic has also improved his time, but stays 20th.
55 min: Grosjean is now third for Lotus, with Massa fourth, Vergne fifth, Raikkonen sixth and Perez in seventh spot.
55 min: With just under 35 minutes of the session remaining, Vettel leads the pack with a time of 1m49.331s, ahead of team-mate Webber.
54 min: Sutil crosses the line just 0.053s shy of his previous best - he was almost correct in his assumption. He remains in 10th position.
53 min: Chilton gets his Marussia out of shape over the kerbs at the exit of Fagnes. A lurid slide.
53 min: Meantime, the Red Bull pair have already filled the tanks and they are gathering long run data for Sunday's race.
52 min: Sutil thinks he can get another hot lap after cooling with this set of medium tyres.
51 min: Van der Garde is still complaining about oversteer from the rear of his Caterham, but the Dutchman is at least ahead of his team-mate and both Marussias in 19th.
50 min: Sutil completes a batter lap in the other Fore India. He moves into eighth with a time of 1m50.629s.
50 min: But he is quickly demoted to eighth spot as Paul di Resta moves his Force India into seventh with a time of 1m50.611s.
