Zuber fastest in Ricard testing

Andreas Zuber dominated the first day of GP2's mid-season test at Paul Ricard

The iSport driver was fastest in both the morning and afternoon sessions, and ended the day half a second clear of his championship-leading teammate Timo Glock.

The German only took part in the first session before travelling to Silverstone ready to resume Formula One testing duties for BMW.

Giorgio Pantano, Pastor Maldonado and Luca Fillippi completed the top five.

Ernesto Viso made his first GP2 appearance of 2007 with FMS International, amid reports that former F1 racer Antonio Pizzonia has split with Giancarlo Fisichella's squad after a disappointing start to the year. Viso, who had rejected GP2 offers to focus on pursuing F1 testing possibilities this season, was ninth quickest.

Sergio Hernandez also returned to the GP2 fold a week after leaving the Proteam BMW World Touring Car Championship squad. He replaced Sergio Jimenez at Racing Engineering.

Michael Ammermuller got back into action for ART after missing the last two races with a wrist injury, and set the eighth fastest time.

With regular driver Kazuki Nakajima testing for Williams at Silverstone, DAMS gave 18-year-old Dutchman Henkie Waldschmidt his first taste of GP2. The Formula Renault frontrunner was 24th on the timesheets.

Mike Conway was slowest of all, having damaged his Super Nova car beyond immediate repair with a heavy accident in the morning.
