Viso Penalised for Turn 1 Crash
BCM driver Ernesto Viso will be docked ten places on the grid for GP2's first race in Magny Cours as a penalty for dangerous driving in today's race two at the Nurburgring
Viso, who started 19th on the grid, slammed into Mathias Lauda at turn one, immediately after the start, in a move that was described by onlookers as "a PlayStation moment". Lauda retired while Viso was able to finish the race in eleventh place.
The stewards handed the penalty to Viso upon reviewing the evidence after the race. And, since the penalty was made on safety grounds, BCM cannot appeal the decision.
Jose Maria Lopez was also under investigation for his part in a crash at the same corner on the following lap - Lopez hit Nicolas Lapierre from behind, who then slid into teammate Heikki Kovalainen, with Alex Premat being left with nowhere to go and also making contact.
The three drivers were immediately out of the race, although Lopez was able to finish, albeit two laps off the lead. Lopez was given a warning for his actions, but no further penalty was handed down.
