Speed Grateful for Race Finish
Scott Speed was pleased that he was able to run all the way to the finish of race two in Barcelona, without any car problems
The American was worried about his clutch ahead of yesterday's race, which he started from pole and finished second. Starting today from seventh, he was thrilled with a good getaway to chase after the leaders.
"I was happy the clutch worked this time!" Speed exclaimed. "We fixed our clutch and I got off the line really well this time. It was a shame Heikki didn't get away as I would have enjoyed having a battle with him, but whatever. I'm really pleased with the team today."
Speed was up to fourth when a safety car was called on track as a result of debris from Alexandre Premat's crash on the front straight, and was involved in a racing incident at the restart with Neel Jani and Gianmaria Bruni, with the drivers running three wide down the front straight.
"I had a bit of an incident on the restart," he noted. "I was fighting Jani and Bruni and I got on the marbles. It was my mistake and I kind of lost the back. I held Jani off and I didn't see what happened to Bruni."
After the incident Speed was able to pull away from Jani, moving up a place when Carroll spun as a result of his collision with Piquet, handing the American his second podium for the weekend: "It was really great to get another podium and it's really good to join Heikki in the lead of the Championship.
"I'm just looking forward to the next race now - obviously Monaco's a tricky place, so we could have any result there."
