Sharp signs up with DPR

Rising Scottish star Ryan Sharp is the latest to confirm his participation in the new GP2 series after agreeing terms with sportscar specialist DPR, which is making its return to single-seaters in 2005

DPR, which is also working on a programme with Mark Blundell and Martin Brundle to race an Aston Martin in the Le Mans 24 Hours race in 2006, has also brought in renowned engineer Andy Miller, who has worked for Jaguar, Stewart Grand Prix as well as DPR in the past, to oversee Sharp's campaign.

"I was totally impressed with the team and their set up," said Sharp. "I've made my long term goal clear from day one and that is to one day be competing in Formula 1.

"Out of all the classes available to me in 2005 GP2 is the obvious and most high profile series to compete in and I am confident that I will be competing to win."

Price is no stranger to success in single-seaters having run a team in British Formula 3 in the '80s, guiding Johnny Dumfries to the title in 1984.

"I was very keen to have a British driver in the team and Andy [Miller] is, of course, well versed in bringing through young Scottish drivers to bigger and better things from his many years with the Stewarts!" said Price. "We had our eye on Ryan all last year and could see then what great potential he has."
