Scheckter fast in second test

Tomas Scheckter could be moving closer to a leap into Formula 3000 after completing his second test in the category

The EFDA Euroseries champion, son of 1979 world champion Jody Scheckter, joined the official FIA test at Catalunya with the European Formula team and lapped within 1.5s of the front-runners.

Scheckter is not short of options for 2000, having also been linked with a Promatecme seat in British Formula Three, and a possible move to the Spanish Euro Open by Nissan series. He took part in the final meeting of the latter championship and won on his debut.

The European Formula test came a week after the South African's first ever experience of F3000 was gained in a run with Martello Motorsport.

'I really enjoyed driving the F3000 car,' he said. 'It wasn't really like a test, more like a qualifying session with everybody out at the same time.

'We had a few problems with traffic and couldn't get a clear run on new tyres but I'm happy with how things went. It's given me something to think about for next year.'
