Pla Fastest in Monaco Practice

Pla set the fastest time late in the session, with the early running led by Nelson Piquet and Giorgio Pantano.

The session was almost entirely without incident - the only man to run off track was Xandi Negrao, who slid backwards into the wall in the run-off area at St. Devote, damaging his rear wing in the process.

He will be able to have repairs affected within the thirty minutes remaining before qualifying.

Hiroki Yoshimoto was unable to go out on track due to acute engine problems - his BCN team were working long into the night trying to find a solution ahead of the session, to no avail.

His frustration would have been compounded by teammate Ernesto Viso setting the third fastest time, just one tenth off Pla's best time. The team continue to work, in order to try and allow Yoshimoto, who has never driven in Monaco, to get out on track in qualifying.
