Parente to drive for Coloni in Bahrain

Alvaro Parente has announced that he will return to GP2 with Coloni in this weekend's Asia series event in Bahrain

Parente to drive for Coloni in Bahrain

The 25-year-old Portuguese driver had recently admitted he was concerned about his 2010 prospects after the collapse of a sponsorship deal cost him his Virgin Formula 1 testing seat, but he has now completed a last-minute deal to join Coloni for Sakhir.

"Everything happened so fast and I only had time to grab my stuff and leave," Parente said. "I don't know the team's staff, but I know they are very pleased with my presence and it's an excellent opportunity to drive a GP2 car once more."

He declared that his aim for Bahrain was just "to do the best I can, knowing that they are already at the end of the championship and that it won't be easy."

Former British Formula 3 and Formula Renault 3.5 champion Parente has driven in the main GP2 series for the past two years with Super Nova and Ocean, winning a race each season, and contested the 2008/2009 GP2 Asia championship with Meritus. He was also a race winner in Superleague Formula last year.

Parente will race the #24 Coloni entry driven by Roldan Rodriguez and Alberto Valerio in the last two GP2 Asia events. Will Bratt remains in the sister Coloni car.
